Click the button below. Your browser downloads a file called tr1-tr8-inspections-setup.zip. It normally lands in your Downloads folder — your browser will show it at the bottom of the window or in its downloads list.

Windows treats anything downloaded from the internet as suspicious. Clearing that before you unzip saves you a scary-looking warning later:

1. Find tr1-tr8-inspections-setup.zip in your Downloads folder.
2. Right-click it → Properties.
3. At the bottom of the General tab, if you see an Unblock tickbox, tick it and click OK. (If there's no tickbox, skip this — nothing is wrong.)
4. Now right-click the zip again → Extract All…

Open the folder you just extracted (it's called tr1-tr8-inspections), then open the scripts folder inside it. Find this file and double-click it:

A black window with white text will open. That's normal — it's the setup running. It does not need an administrator password. If Windows asks for one, something is wrong; stop and see step 7.

The first time, this takes a few minutes. Setup downloads everything the tool needs — including its own private copy of Chrome for reading DOB NOW (about 260 MB in total). You'll see a lot of text scroll past; that is normal. There is nothing for you to install by hand.

You may see a blue box saying "Windows protected your PC", mentioning an unrecognised app or unknown publisher.

The black window should show:

The window stays open until you press a key — it won't vanish on you. Press any key to close it. If it says PROBLEM instead, it tells you what went wrong; see step 7.

Click Run TR1-TR8 Export at the top of this page. The first time, your browser asks something like "Open DOB NOW Extract?".

Tick Always allow, then click Open. That's your browser checking you meant to open a program on your own computer — it only asks once. A window then opens and walks you through the export, pausing so you can sign into DOB NOW yourself.

Normally, when the export finishes you drag output/dob_now_master.xlsx onto the box below. That always works and needs no setup.

If you'd rather the export send it by itself, add two lines to the .env file in your project folder:

With both set, the run ends with “Uploaded — 260 rows are now on the dashboard's TR1/TR8 page” and there is nothing left to do. Add DASHBOARD_UPLOAD_USER=Your Name as well if you want the page to credit you by name instead of your computer login.

Nothing changes if you skip this. Without a token the export makes no network connection at all and behaves exactly as it does today. If an automatic upload ever fails, the export still succeeds — it says so plainly and you drag the file across, same as always. The token is a shared password: don't pass it on and don't commit it.

Email [email protected] and include these three things — they answer the first questions you'd be asked anyway:

1. Which step number above you got stuck on.
2. What the black window said (a photo of the screen is fine).
3. Whether you're on Windows or a Mac.

Same steps, three differences. In step 2 there's no Unblock tickbox — just double-click the zip to unzip it, then drag the folder somewhere permanent. In step 3 the file is scripts/setup-protocol-handler.command. In step 4, instead of a blue box, macOS may say the file is "from an unidentified developer" — right-click the file → Open → Open. The first time you use the Run button, macOS also asks whether "DOB NOW Extract" may control Terminal; click OK, which is how the run gets a window you can watch.
